Documents Required for EV Car Tax Renewal

What do you need to renew car tax? The documents needed for EV car tax renewal are similar to those for conventional vehicles. Ensuring all documents are prepared will facilitate a smooth renewal process.

Documents required for cars under 7 years old

•  Vehicle registration book (Blue Book)
•  Compulsory Motor Insurance Certificate (Por Ror Bor)

Documents required for cars over 7 years old

•  Vehicle registration book (Blue Book)
•  Compulsory Motor Insurance Certificate (Por Ror Bor)
•  Vehicle inspection certificate from a certified inspection center (Tor Ror Or)

Regardless of vehicle type, obtaining the Por Ror Bor is mandatory before renewing the car tax. This insurance can be purchased alongside voluntary car insurance or separately.

How to Renew Your EV Car Tax

Renewing your EV car tax in Thailand has become more convenient, with multiple channels available:

•  Department of Land Transport (DLT) offices nationwide
•  DLT e-Service website: https://eservice.dlt.go.th
•  DLT Vehicle Tax mobile application
•  Drive Thru for Tax service
•  Automated tax payment kiosks
•  Authorized service counters and post offices
•  Mobile payment applications like mPay and True Money Wallet

Early Payment and Penalties

No matter what type of car you drive, you can pay your car tax in advance—up to 90 days before the due date. On the other hand, late payments incur a 1% monthly fine on the total tax amount. If the vehicle is used without a valid tax renewal, the owner may be fined up to 10,000 baht. That's why it's best to plan ahead and renew your car tax in advance.

In cases where the car tax has not been renewed for over 3 years, the vehicle’s registration will be revoked, and the owner will need to apply for a new registration. This includes paying up to 3 years of back taxes, plus a 1% monthly fine on the owed tax amount, as well as additional registration fees and the cost of new license plates.

Switching to an Electric Car: Cost Benefits

Transitioning to an electric car offers multiple financial advantages, including reduced fuel costs and lower annual tax rates. The Thai government supports this shift through tax incentives and subsidies.

If you're considering purchasing an electric car, explore options at EVme, where you can schedule test drives and benefit from:

•  Low down payments with financing up to 84 months
•  Replacement vehicles in case of issues (terms apply)*
•  24/7 roadside assistance for emergencies

*Replacement vehicles are provided for issues arising from the vehicle itself, excluding road accidents.
